Fun and Games

Tonight was our quilt guilds monthly meeting. May is always a potluck dinner and program. If you remember, a month ago I made a secret project. We were asked to make something small and not show or tell anyone what it was. Tonight the projects were going to be unveiled and we had to guess who made what. There we 28 participants/projects. We were given the list of participants and had to match the item with the member. I thought I would do really well, because I know who hand quilts, who likes paper piecing, who does needleturn applique, etc. Well, that strategy did not work. I got 4 correct and one of them was my own! The tote bag made with Mary Engelbreit fabric was my entry.
We also were asked to bring 6 strips of fabric cut 2.5 inches by width of fabric each. We played a game with them. You play with 3 strips of fabric at a time. There are 3 dice. Each dice has an L for left, an R for right, a C for center (better known as the pot) and a DOT, which means you get a pass. You shake the dice and the fabric swapping begins, depending on what you shake. If you have less than 3 strips of fabric, you shake that many dice. You keep going until there is one person left with fabric and they win the pot and ALL the fabric strips. It was great fun watching the fabric being moved back and forth from player to player. I don't think there was a person there tonight who could say they didn't have a fun time.

Hi, I just found your blog and love the bag you did. I used that pattern a year or so ago with black and white fabrics and it turned out cute too. If you don't mind explain the game a bit more. The dice, are they regular dice with something tacked on to have the L and R and so on and does the whole group play or do you divide up into smaller groups with each having the dice? Do you pass all the stips you have when it says left? Thanks, Sandra

Thanks for dropping by Sandra. The dice game is called LCR. You can purchase it online for $5.75 with free shipping...just google it. Each participant starts with 3 strips of fabric. They roll 3 dice. They then have to do whatever the initial on the dice says. Example: LC. (that last one is a dot) You would pass one strip of fabric to the left (for L), you put a strip of fabric in the center (for C, which in this case is considered the pot) and if you get a dot, it is considered a pass, so you do nothing. If it comes around to you and you only have 2 pieces of fabric, you only shake 2 die, 1 piece, 1 die, etc. You keep moving around the table clockwise, so lots of people can play. Even if you have no fabric left, you are still in the game because someone on your right or left may have to pass you a piece of fabric. Eventually it gets down to 1 person with one piece of fabric and all the rest of the fabric in the center or pot. The person left with the last piece of fabric wins the pot full of fabric. Clear as mud? lol
